A global study done by the Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera research team documented prevalence of hypothermia in dogs following anesthesia.
83.6 of the 1,525 dogs included in the study suffered from hypothermia after a procedure requiring anesthesia.
Hypothermia is a frequent complication of anesthesia in dogs. Smaller dogs, dogs undergoing thoracic surgery or diagnostics, or dogs needing prolonged anesthesia, are particularly susceptible. Interestingly, even posture during the procedure makes a difference.
Heat loss prevention is crucial in dogs undergoing anesthesia.
